How to Be a Better Person
A YouTube Podcast
Every Monday and Thursday, I share one simple thing you can do in the next 24 hours to increase your capacity for being a decent human. Think of “How to Be a Better Person” as the angel on your shoulder, helping you do the right thing (and pay less attention to the devil that’s sitting on your other shoulder).
Every day you’re faced with countless situations where you have to decide how to react; there’s a little version of yourself that would love to take things personally, seek revenge, and make it all about you (hey, I’ve been there!);
When you seek to be a better person, you aim to let the bigger version of yourself call the shots; the one that can recognize the opportunity wrapped inside every challenge, the one that can stay curious and open to possibilities, the one that can come from a place of love instead of fear.
To be clear, I am not talking about completely making yourself over, like some HGTV show where they turn a dirty basement into a beautifully organized play room in a weekend. You are not a dirty basement. The fact that you’re even reading this now means you’re pretty OK as you are, because you already care about being a good person. Seriously, that puts you ahead of the game, and I want to acknowledge you for listening to that little voice that’s telling you it’s time to grow.
I’m also not talking about morphing yourself into a perfect person–you can still forget birthdays, say things you wish you hadn’t said, phone it in at work, curse, get angry, and even yell at other cars from time to time. Lord knows I do! (What is it about driving that brings all my irritation right up to the surface??)
What I AM talking about is committing to the idea of moving in a positive direction.
After all, you only get one shot at what Prince called “this thing called life”, so let’s take full advantage and evolve as much we can while we’re here.
