So you probably know by now that I launched a podcast called “How to Be a Better Person” (based on my book of the same name). It’s been a really fun and exciting undertaking that is a great exercise in creativity, consistency, and trying new things. But, like most things in life, there’s a flip side to it too. Namely, putting myself out there as someone who can help you be a better person has definitely presented situations where I have felt like anything but a good person. At times, I’ve even thought to myself, “Who do you even think you are??”
Who Do You Think You Are?
If you clicked on the title of this blog I’m guessing that you’ve had a similar situation. You decided to go for something and then you got a challenge in that exact same area, and it’s made you wonder what in the heck you were thinking.
Oh, I feel you! But listen, whatever is coming up for you isn’t a judgment of who you are or what you’re capable of. I think of it more like a test.
I think the universe says, ‘You can have what you want but first I want to make sure you really want what you say you do.’ And then life sends you something that makes dig deep. And having to dig deep usually isn’t all that enjoyable of a process but it’s usually a worthy one in that it helps you develop a skill or learn something about yourself that you wouldn’t have otherwise.
Stay The Course
So next time you wonder what in the hell you were thinking when you decided to go do this thing. Whatever it is, stay connected to why you wanted that thing in the first place and stay the course. That’s what I’m doing. =)
For me, I know that there are people out there telling themselves that they want to be a better person, and I want to help them take that impulse and make it real. I also want a passion project in my life, and to be creating and building something that matters to me personally.
Truly, I do love working with clients to help their books come to life, I honestly do! (I have been mainly ghostwriting for the past year and only a little bit of coaching, simply because the ghostwriting took on a life of its own and I am following the flow.) But if I don’t also devote some of my time, energy, and talent to something that’s all the way mine, I start to resent the time, energy, and talent I devote to others. And that doesn’t feel good, and it’s not who or how I want to be.
Whatever it is that’s making you question yourself, you got this.
